We
still have not talked about the parts such as the 36
SLA panels, and the 3 Sim bay door covers. So what about
these items where did they go? What was their trajectories?
Could they have been a hazard to anyone on any mission?
The
first thing to remember is that once an object is moving
between the Earth and the Moon if no other force is
applied to that object it will continue in that same
path it is on. There are an infinite number of orbits
any object can take so we will have to talk in generalities.
We are here concerned with just a few basic types of
orbits.
In
each of the cases we are talking about, the spacecraft
and its parts were already in an orbit that left the
Earth and was on its way to the Moon. Either in a free
return or a hybrid orbit. Reference the drawings in
the Apollo 13 analysis above to see these orbits. When
the CSM/LM separated from the S-IVB they were in a free-return
orbit. So the 36 SLA panels went into free-return orbits
which would take them into periodic paths around the
Earth and Moon. But never in any of the documents are
any of these panels discussed except some missions talked
about their own panels. I am not saying these panels
would actually would have hit one of the Apollo spacecraft,
what I am saying is that the potential was there, and
that being the case why are there no discussion or anything
in any of the records?
Let
me put it this way, why was such a big issue made of
the Luna 15 spacecraft on the Apollo 11 flight, but
none of the other objects in this report were even mentioned?
And why did no other flight even mentioned any of the
hazards they faced?
Wouldn't
you think that with spacecrafts whizzing around with
them in lunar orbit there would have been some kind
of communication? Like for instance someone asking those
on Earth if there was anything on radar they should
be watching out for? DOD/NASA
has provided documents that they say includes every
word spoken by the astronauts in orbit. But nowhere
in those documents are these thing referenced. Also
any and every object that might be a possible hazard
could not have been anticipated before any flight because
no one knew exactly when and where the spacecraft would
be until they actually were there in orbit around the
Moon. They had a basic idea before the flight but that
was all.
The
3 Sim Bay door cover panels were ejected while the spacecraft
were in lunar orbit but there is nothing in the records
concerning the fate of these objects. Since we have
nothing in the record showing that they crashed on the
Moon's surface, we can assume they are still there orbiting
the Moon. If they had crashed onto the Moon, the experiments
that were placed on the Moon and recorded all of the
crashes on the Moon since Apollo 11 should have recorded
this fact.
